Speeding truck overturns on auto killing 4 people in MP's Rewa

A peaceful pilgrimage turned into a horrific tragedy on Thursday afternoon when a speeding bulk truck carrying cement pillars overturned onto an auto-rickshaw in the Sohagi Hills region of Rewa district, Madhya Pradesh. The accident led to the death of four passengers, including a man, a woman, and two children, while four others were critically injured.

According to initial reports, the victims were residents of Naigarhi in Mauganj and had been returning home after taking a holy dip in the Ganga river at Prayagraj. The overloaded truck, also traveling from Prayagraj to Rewa, lost control while overtaking the auto-rickshaw on a narrow stretch near the Madhya Pradesh–Uttar Pradesh border, causing it to tip over and crush the smaller vehicle.

The scene turned chaotic as local villagers rushed to rescue survivors. Emergency teams, along with police, reached the location quickly. The injured were transported to a nearby hospital with the help of locals. Rewa’s Additional Superintendent of Police Vivek Lal confirmed that efforts were underway to identify the victims and alert their families.

The devastating crash triggered a three-kilometer-long traffic jam, stretching from Sohagi Hills to the nearby toll plaza. Authorities managed to clear the congestion after about 30 minutes of coordinated work with the local administration and towing services.

Investigations are now ongoing, with police collecting eyewitness statements and analyzing the cause of the truck’s failure to maintain control. A case has been registered, and further forensic examination of the accident scene is expected to follow.
